The application window to enter this year’s CfD Allocation Round 7 officially opens tomorrow (7 August).
Developers have until the end of the application window, currently scheduled for 27 August according to the UK government’s most recently published timeline, to enter eligible projects into the auction ahead of the week-long window for qualifying applicants to make sealed bids.
Sealed bids can be submitted from 21-27 October under energy department DESNZ’s shortest potential auction timeline or as late as 5-9 January 2026 under the longest scenario, if appeals are requested by non-qualifying applicants.
Results would then be announced between 9-10 December at the earliest and 25-26 February 2026 at the latest, depending on which timeline the round runs to.
A record 25GW of fixed-bottom offshore wind capacity is eligible to enter the race to land a CfD deal from Pot 3, for which a maximum strike price of £113 per megawatt-hour (in 2024 prices) has been set.
Eligible capacity has been bolstered by nearly 9GW following London’s decision to drop the requirement for projects to have secured planning permission before mounting a CfD bid.
Meanwhile, more than 450MW of floating wind capacity is eligible to enter Pot 4 where a maximum strike price of £271/MWh is available.
