SPR installs EA3 converter station jacket

The jacket foundation for the offshore converter station for ScottishPower Renewables’ 1.4GW East Anglia 3 wind farm has been put in position 69km off east England.

The installation of the 3,700-tonne and 59-metre-high base was completed by Heerema crane vessel SSCV Sleipnir following its delivery from Aker Solutions’ Verdal yard in Norway.

The topside is due to be installed in October ahead of full operations being achieved for the wind farm in 2026.

“The offshore construction programme for EA3 is the biggest feat of engineering we’ve ever undertaken – to see 3,700 tonnes of steel lifted safely and securely into place, with exacting and medical precision, is a truly impressive site,” said SPR’s EA3 project director Pedro Fernandez.

“This is the latest milestone for the project and is testament to the tremendous teamwork with our supply chain partners, so my thanks to everyone involved from SPR, Aker Solutions and Heerema.”
