SSE Renewables and RWE will launch a geotechnical survey campaign next month for their proposed 1GW North Falls wind farm off east England.
The study will examine the project’s export cable route as well as the proposed 57-turbine array area located around 40km off the coast of East Anglia.
Fugro will carry out the work using its Voe Vanguard vessel.
Mobilisation to the sites is scheduled to begin on 3 August and last for approximately two months depending on weather conditions, according to a mariners notice.
The scope of work will comprise downhole sampling and cone penetration tests in sand and clay, then extended by rotary core drilling in rock to depths up to six metres below seabed.
A Development Consent Order permit application for North Falls is currently under examination by the UK Planning Inspectorate.
The wind farm is proposed as an extension to SSE-RWE’s operational 504MW Greater Gabbard wind farm (pictured).
