East Anglia One Export Cable Halfway There

DeepOcean has installed the first of two HVAC export cables on the 714MW East Anglia One offshore wind farm in the UK.

The company’s Maersk Connector simultaneously laid and buried the 85km long three-core cable using its 7000te carousel and ACP2 cable plough spread.

According to DeepOcean, the works were carried out according to schedule.

Nexans, who is responsible for the supply of the export cables, awarded DeepOcean with a contract in January 2017 to carry out the transport and installation work.

The project’s offshore substation was installed some 59km from the coast of Lowestoft at the end of August.

Currently, some 60 electrical engineers and technicians are working to complete the installation of the equipment required to commission the substation and to have it ready for the first turbines that will be switched on.

The East Anglia One offshore wind project comprises 102 Siemens 7MW turbines scheduled to come into operation in 2020.
